On Juneteenth (June 19, 2020), MuralsDC embarked upon an ambitious task–to install 51 original works of art in one week in recognition of the District’s decades-long quest for statehood! The murals and photographic pieces were also in celebration of  the District’s first congressional statehood vote in over 20 years. The vote took place and passed in the House on June 26, the day all 51 murals–ranging from 5′ x 5′ to 10′ x 10′–were revealed. The 8 photographs and 43 murals, accompanied by the hashtag #MuralsDC51, promote DC statehood and also themes that celebrate love, racial harmony, social justice,  human rights and District history.
